Building human rights practice in the disability sector

Building human rights practice in the disability sector

Housing Resource & Support Service (HR&SS) and the Victorian Equal
Opportunity and Human Rights Commission are holding a workshop to
strengthen human rights practice among disability service providers.

The workshop aims to develop a collective voice in the disability sector that promotes
human rights practice. Building partnerships between organisations working on a human
rights model will ensure human rights are integrated into mainstream practice in the
disability sector, and that the sector is recognised for its leadership.

The workshop will:
> introduce human rights and the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and
Responsibilities, including case studies on consumers’ experiences with the Charter
> share the progress of HR&SS’s human rights project, including its Consumer Charter
of Rights and Responsibilities
> outline different rights-based models
> consider opportunities for developing an action plan for a human rights-based
approach to service delivery
> outline plans for a peer support program to strengthen human rights practice.

Time
Arrive at 9am. Workshop runs from
9.30am to 12.30pm.
