Free Forum on Strengthening Human Rights in Disability Services

Free Forum on Strengthening Human Rights in Disability Services

Broadmeadows: Wednesday 23 May Hume Global Learning Centre, 1093 Pascoe Vale Road Registration from 9.00am; Forum 9.30am−12.30pm followed by lunch

Human rights are the foundation on which the shift to self-directed approaches is built. For disability service providers, the challenge is to build human rights into the heart of a more market-oriented model of service provision.
Research shows that a human rights based approach leads to improved outcomes and better services for people with disabilities. For service providers it can also lead to greater efficiency and staff engagement.
National Disability Services, with funding from the Department of Human Services, is delivering this interactive forum that will grapple with how human rights play out in day-to-day practice, and explore how human rights principles can be embedded into service delivery.

The forum will include:
- an introductory presentation on human rights in a disability context
-a panel discussion of case scenarios featuring a human rights expert, service provider managers, and a self-advocate.
-an opportunity to workshop the issues through case scenarios, and work towards possible solutions.

To enable you to take the conversation forward in your organisation, it is recommended that more than one person attend where possible. The forum will be relevant and accessible to all levels, from management to support workers.
To RSVP please contact Silvana Trajkovska, silvana.trajkovska@nds.org.au
