Kinship Care
Kinship care is the care provided by relatives or a member of a child’s social network when a child cannot live with their parents
The Department of Human Services in Victoria has funded the establishment of Kinship Carers Victoria – a peak body for kinship carers.
The organisation’s aim is to have kinship carers in Victoria supported in their role according to their needs and the needs of the children they care for, and appreciated by the community for their contribution to their families and the community as a whole.
What is the role of Kinship Carers Victoria?
•Identify, promote and represent the views of kinship carers in decision-making processes
•Inform and train carers to enable them to better perform their role as carers
•Advocate the needs of kinship carers with decision makers
•Promote and assist in the delivery of programs designed to support kinship carers.
