Workshop overview
There are many changes occurring in the way we provide support and opportunities for people with disabilities. In light of the reorientation of disability services occurring in Victoria, the introduction of individual support packages and the forthcoming National Disability Insurance Scheme, it is importnat that everyone has a good understanding of person centred practice and self-directed approaches.
This workshop provides an introduction to self-directed approaches (SDA) and a human rights based framework.
Who should attend
This workshop is targeted at Disability support workers, supervisors and managers who want to learn about SDA and the changing nature of disability support work.
Workshop content
Workshop content will cover:
Self-directed planning, funding and thinking
Underlying values and principles of SDA
An overview of the knowledge and skills required to implement SDA (leading into Part 2)
